I love making these treats for Lily! She absolutely loves them! The only downfall is that they take 40 minutes to bake. They stay good for about a week in an air tight container. To preserve them longer, you can refrigerate them for up to 3 weeks and freeze them for up to 6 months. I usually keep some out and freeze the rest then take them out when I run out.
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup rolled oats
1/3 cup peanut butter, chunky or smooth
1 1/4 cups hot water
Additional flour for rolling
Preheat oven to 350° F
Mix dry ingredients together. Mix in the peanut butter and hot water. You may need to add more flour if the dough is too sticky. Knead the dough well. Roll out the dough into 1/4″ thickness and cut into shapes with dog cookie cutters.
Bake on a lightly greased cookie sheet for 40 minutes. Take them out of the oven and let them cool on a wire rack for about 10-15 mins. Lily gets one when they’re still warm..she’s a lucky, spoiled girl!
The cookies get very hard, and stay fairly soft in the center..Just the way dogs like them!
